There was nothing at all shabby about Christie & Scott’s shabby-chic vintage wedding on the Gold Coast.

The “low maintenance” bride and groom, Christie Smith and Scott Wilson of Sydney, were joined by an intimate 48 for what they describe as a low budget, but beautiful expression of their love – and their personalities.

The UK bride, 24, wore a flowing one-shoulder gown by Master/slave teaming her designer dress with Converse street shoes (in white, of course) and antique heirloom jewellery.

Scott, a leading seaman in the Royal Australian Navy, also 24, turned to Asos for his retro-cool black and white ensemble; a strong contrast to the event’s pretty pastel backdrop.

Theirs was a whirlwind romance, meeting in Sydney and dating for six months before Christie’s visa expired. Christie recalls, “I returned to the UK and we agreed to go our separate ways. After a few weeks we realised we were meant to be and I moved back permanently to be with Scott.”

She adds, “It was the best decision I ever made and within a week of being back I was wearing the most beautiful engagement ring – and an even bigger smile.”

They made their vows on March 8, 2014 in an outdoor ceremony at Len Wort Park, Currumbin, and celebrated at Currumbin Surf Life Saving Club.

This Day Photography captured their quirky style.
