Colour was central to this fusion wedding, uniquely incorporating two cultures; Scottish and Sri Lankan.

“We wanted to involve our families in our wedding as much as possible and to incorporate both our backgrounds,” says bride Rachel Smith, 30. She married her beau Shehan Fernando, 34, on April 19, 2014 at Noosa Heads.

There were plenty of personal touches on the day including a homemade Sri Lankan wedding cake by Shehan’s mum, grandma and aunties. There was a bagpiper playing at the ceremony and Rachel’s dad, brother and a family friend wore kilts. The ladies in Shehan’s family wore Sri Lankan saris. “It was a very colourful day,” smiles Rachel.

Rachel and Shehan chose to offset their cultural coming together with a theme of lavender, grey and silver. “The ceremony and reception areas were more beautiful than we could have imagined, thanks to all our wonderful vendors and my mum for making the table centrepieces,” says Rachel.

The pair honeymooned in the Maldives.
