Not many grooms can say they had a makeover between the ceremony and reception, but for Ross Macdonald and Janys Chiron it was all part of the fun of their teepee wedding.

Ross, 33, and his groomsmen had grown bushy beards for the wedding, before going under the razor to emerge with a new look and new outfits for the reception.

“Ross thinks he may be the only groom in the world that walked around his own wedding as a stranger for an hour because no one recognised him without a beard,” Janys, 28, laughs.

The Melbourne pair wed on January 17, 2015, at Janys’ godfather’s idyllic Mount Evelyn property in front of 120 guests.

“The idea of a rustic wedding with teepees stemmed from our love of music festivals and all things old, including our 1972 honeycomb bay-window Kombi, Klaus that was used as the bridal car,” Janys says.

“We both agreed we wanted it to be like one enormous party.”

Teepees courtesy of TipiKata and decorated with fairy lights created the festival atmosphere the couple was after.

“We wanted the decorations to complement the rustic outdoor theme we were going for and decided on lace, hessian, succulents, candles, old jars and wood to decorate our venue,” Janys says.
