Emily Ambler’s love story began when she fell for the bus driver.

The 32-year-old met Adam Carbery, 36, while they were both working on Queensland’s Hamilton Island. And despite Emily saying “Adam’s goatee, nose piercing, metal-band shirts and ear-stretchers” meant he wasn’t the typical guy she would go for, he caught her eye while driving her and other staff to and from work.

“After sitting next to Adam during a first-aid course and he rolled up my bandages for me, I began to think he was a little bit sweet,” remembers Emily. One goodnight kiss later and the pair were an item. They celebrated their first date on Melbourne Cup day and two years later on the same day, but at a different racecourse, he nervously popped the question. “In the middle of a crowded tent at Doomben Race Course in Brisbane, Adam got down on one knee and proposed,” smiles Emily.

The Brisbane couple gave themselves just seven months to plan their romantic vintage wedding for June 5, 2015. The bride says the planning was a “rollercoaster”, but one they enjoyed together. “We felt that the keys to creating a successful day were to make it personal, make it ours, and to involve as many friends and relatives in the process as possible.”

With 60 guests the couple wed at Cedar Creek Estate Winery. “Being winter we were pressed for sunlight during the photo session,” explains Emily. “We were literally running from tree to tree trying to catch the sunlight.”
