Melburnians Elisia and Joel let their home shine through at their luxe city wedding on March 11, 2018.

“I always wanted to have a wedding where the Melbourne City shone through, the skyline, the trams and all the beautiful architecture which fills the city,” explains 29-year-old Elisia. “I grew up here, Joel [aged 30] and I fell in love here, so it was the perfect backdrop for our special day.”

Almost 200 guests attended their ceremony at The Dome followed by a reception at Metropolis at Southbank. “We wanted our wedding to be different, we didn’t want the typical sit down, listen to speeches boring wedding – we wanted a huge party,” says the bride. “We both also loved New York City and after visiting wanted to feature an element of that amazing place into our wedding.”

Elisia says she fell in love with Metropolis the minute she walked in. “The huge casement windows which gave the perfect skyline view of Melbourne fit the brief perfectly. I felt like I was transported back to the Empire State Building all those years before,” she says.

Photos courtesy of Michael Briggs Photography.

View Metropolis wedding packages

Elisia’s dress was inspired by the Art Deco period. “It was hand-beaded with a 2.7m train and weighed a whopping 8.5 kilograms,” she says.

“The Dome has such an elegance the minute you walk in. It actually was the reason my dress train was made so long – to truly capture the grandeur of the entrance as you walk up the aisle, which is a city block in length,” describes Elisia.

Their celebrant Russ Macumber was “chilled, down to earth and funny”, the couple says.
