Less than a year after their whirlwind romance was sparked by an instant attraction, Madeleine and Matthew were expecting their first child together and planning their elopement.

“Neither of us were interested in a lavish wedding. We wanted the focus to be on our love and the commitment we were making,” says the bride, 24.

Madeleine and Matthew, 31, tied the knot on January 25, 2018 at an intimate garden wedding ceremony at a family member’s property in Millthorpe, NSW. Matthew’s father, a minister by trade, guided the pair through the legal formalities, looked on by a grand total of 12 people.

For the 35-week-pregnant bride, comfort was key. She accompanied her groom in wearing sandals, and wore a dress purchased for $100 – a bargain found online.

Costs were kept to a minimum, with family and friends pitching in where they could. A friend helped with photography, with Madeleine’s mother and step dad keeping everyone fed and hydrated throughout the celebration.

“Overall, we spent a total of $2,500. We did it all ourselves and we couldn’t be happier. Our wedding was a true testament to our love. Sweet and unique.”
