Image: David M.Bennett\/Centrepoint\/Getty Images via Huffington Post\n<p class=\"lead\"><em>Downtown Abbey&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em>Michelle Dockery has lost her fiance, Irish PR executive John Dineen, to a rare form of cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle, who plays Lady Mary Crawley on the Golden Globe-winning TV show about British aristocracy, was in the US\u00a0for <em>Downtown&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em>international promotional tour when she received news of John&#8217;s\u00a0deteriorating health.<\/p>\n<p>She immediately headed to Ireland to be by her fiance&#8217;s side and was with him when he passed away at\u00a0Marymount Hospital in County Cork, two days before her birthday.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle, 34, \u00a0and John, also 34, were introduced in 2013 by\u00a0<em>Downtown <\/em>co-star\u00a0Allen Leech, who plays chauffeur Tom Branson, and they became engaged around February 2015.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com.au\/entry\/michelle-dockery-boyfriend-john-dineen-dies-dead_56700ff6e4b0fccee16fc6ab?ncid=newsltushpmg00000003&amp;section=australia\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Huffington Post <\/a>Michelle&#8217;s spokesperson released a statement to ITV news stating: \u00a0&#8220;The family is very grateful for the support and kindness they have received but would kindly request that they are left to grieve in private.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Michelle has since attended John&#8217;s funeral which took place at the\u00a0St James&#8217; Catholic Church, in his home village of Waterfall, County Cork.<\/p>\n Michelle Dockery has lost her fiance to a rare form on cancer.
