If you\u2019re anything like us, you think one of the most delightful aspects of weddings is the cake<\/del> exquisite array of blooms often inhabiting the ceremony and reception space<\/a>, their prettiness mesmerising us like a magpie to something shiny.<\/p>\n

This is why when we had a chance to sit down with talented floral designers<\/a> from all over the country, we were excited. The kind of excitement and heart-fluttering anticipation that might make one spill their latte on their keyboard. *Ahem*.<\/p>\n

We asked them for the nitty-gritty details on exactly which 2022 wedding flower trends are going to be gracing our wedding mood boards<\/a> on the reg. And let us say, it\u2019s going to be quite the colourful year, folks.<\/p>\n\n

1. Bright, colourful florals.<\/h3>\n

Love nothing more than a big burst of colour? Does black have no place in your wardrobe? Lucky you! Bright blooms are on-trend this year, according to the experts. \u201c2022 is bringing on some super vibrant colours in bright and bold tones,” says Dawn Jackson, creative director at Luxx Weddings & Events<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“It’s gearing towards the celebratory vibes and couples letting go of their inhibitions to showcase their unique personalities whilst incorporating the element of fun and playfulness.\u201d<\/p>\n

2. Lots of texture.<\/h3>\n

Apparently, we’re going to see florists get playful with textures this year \u2014 and we are here for it!<\/p>\n

Cassie McQualter, the founder of Melbourne’s Petal and Sage<\/a>, explains that after two years of postponements, couples are feeling a new sense of enthusiasm and getting creative with blooms.<\/p>\n

“Textural abundance is a big trend we are seeing come in, whether it’s pastel, bold or classic white, our couples are opting for an abundance of textural mixed florals,” says Cassie.<\/p>\n

“Our couples have had to wait an extra two years to have the dream day they want, they want to wow their guests, blast it over their socials and really celebrate.”<\/p>\n

3. Big installations.<\/h3>\n

Similarly, couples are now pulling out all the stops to celebrate this new era by investing in gorgeous large-scale floral arrangements that awe and inspire.<\/p>\n

Dawn Jackson, creative director at Luxx Weddings & Events<\/a>, says she’s seeing an increase in breathtaking installations. “I would say that larger-scale floral installations would be the choice of many couples in 2022, making the reception space a serious show-stopper.<\/p>\n

“A few smaller pieces of arrangements with a concentration of larger arrangements would definitely set the tone for the day. Couples are leaning towards a day where they can make a bold statement which would last a lifetime.”<\/p>\n

4. Monochromatic colour schemes.<\/h3>\n

Calling all couples who love their blooms to be perfectly colour-coordinated!<\/p>\n

Owner and creative director of Couture Botanical<\/a>, Jane Goldfinch, explains that couples are steering clear of the “garden-inspired” and “romantic, lush arrangements” that dominated in 2020 and 2021 and are opting for homogeneous colour palettes.<\/p>\n

“Our couples are choosing wedding florals that are incorporating pieces full of monochromatic florals. Smaller, grouped collections of blooms in similar hues are taking centre stage.<\/p>\n

“Monochromatic tones of florals in different vessels for texture are leading their style choices.”<\/p>\n

5. Creativity.<\/h3>\n

If unique florals with a bit of personality call to you, then you’ll love that wedding flowers will veer from traditional posies this year, with floral stylist Tam Toros from ABIA-nominated wedding florist, Florium Creations<\/a>, revealing that we’ll be seeing a lot more asymmetrical bridal bouquets.<\/p>\n

And do you know what else we’ll be seeing? Glitter! “I’m predicting glitter and bling incorporated with florals to be big for this year and next,” says Toros.<\/p>\n
