What type of entertainment will you have at your reception?
Half of Couples have DJ as Wedding Entertainment
A DJ is the most popular form of wedding entertainment according to an Easy Weddings poll. 57% of the couples that took part in the poll indicated they would be having a DJ, with a live band being the second most popular choice at 23%. Only 2% of respondents said they wouldn’t be having entertainment at their wedding at all.
Hiring a DJ to provide entertainment at your wedding reception is an excellent choice. They can play the type of music you like and can respond to the mood of your guests, changing their play list to keep the party going or calm things down as necessary. DJs are usually good value as they play for a long time and will provide music to cover breaks. They can also perform other tasks such as announcing the first dance and the cake cutting ceremony.
The second most popular form of wedding entertainment is a live band. Hiring a band for your wedding adds energy and atmosphere, and will make your reception particularly memorable, especially if the band plays your first dance song. However bands are usually more expensive than a DJ and they don’t play for as long so you will need additional music for the rest of the reception. You will also need a venue that is suitable for a live band. Alternative types of live entertainment include dancers and other entertainers, and 2% of respondents said they were planning to use these.
For couples who are looking to save money on wedding entertainment, computerised music set up on an mp3 player or tablet computer is a free way to provide entertainment. It also has the advantage that you have complete control over the playlist, and you can create different playlists for different parts of the reception. The downside is that it is hard to change the music to respond to what is happening at the reception as a DJ could.
