A charming Little Henri wedding for Tegan and Lewis

Tegan had always wanted a winter wedding. “I figured that if you plan for bad, cold, Melbourne weather, you wont be disappointed when you get it!”

As it turned out, Tegan was right. It hailed on the day that she married Lewis, and yet the couple along with their 83 guests were anything but disappointed.

Tegan and Lewis met fortuitously when they moved in across the street from one another. Four years later, it was during one of Melbourne’s many lockdowns when Lewis proposed with a ring he had secretly been designing for months prior with jeweller Jasmine Fraser.

The night before their Little Henri wedding, Tegan and Lewis rented a gorgeous New York-style B&B where they got ready with their small wedding party — just one bridesmaid, Amy, and one groomsman, Karl. “Once Lewis and Karl were ready, they waited in Flagstaff Gardens for Amy and I to get into our dresses and come meet them for the official first look,” explains Tegan.

Amy wore a classic gown with an off-the-shoulder cut and full skirt, while Lewis opted for a custom suit from Oscar Hunt Tailors. “We loved the process of getting Lew’s suit custom-made at Oscar Hunt,” remembers Tegan.

After exploring the city tother and capturing some stunning pre-wedding portraiture, the pair arrived at Little Henri, their ceremony and reception venue of choice. The charming yet spacious cafe was the perfect setting for an atmospheric celebration, decorated with stunning native florals and fairy lights.

Melbourne celebrant, Yvonne Adele led the ceremony from amongst the guests. “We absolutely loved Yvonne. “Lovely, charismatic and stands out in a crowd with her bright pink hair!” exclaims Tegan before continuing to describe their romantic ceremony. “Our favourite part was finally hearing each other’s vows, and realising that they matched, even though we’d never discussed what would be in them!”

Baker Boys Band lead a high-energy reception with Tegan changing into a white reception mini-dress and joining the guests on the dancefloor. “We didn’t leave the dancefloor, and it was truly the best dancefloor of my life!” the couple reflected before adding that there would be nothing they would opt to change given the chance — bar some extra dancing hours!

The vibe at Little Henri really suited us and it had enough character that we didn’t have to think too much about other decorations. We wanted a cocktail style wedding because we didn’t want to dictate where people sat, or who they could easily talk to. This meant we didn’t need a massive space that fit loads of tables and chairs, but we wanted somewhere for people to sit if they needed to. Little Henri has a long built in bench seat along one wall, where people can (and did!) sit watching the dance floor. Perfect!
