Event planner Vanessa Muscat had always organised other people’s weddings… that is, until Chris Bronsgeest asked her to marry him!
Once again, the pressure was on to produce the perfect wedding. However this time, Vanessa, 30, was the bride, and the wedding was her own.
On March 11, 2017 the “city girl” and “country boy” from rural Victoria, said ‘I do’ among 70 family and friends at their vintage wedding held at Cammeray Waters in the Macedon Ranges.
Though Vanessa’s father had passed some years before, in spirit he walked her down the aisle, symbolised through a brooch attached to her wedding shoes containing a photo of him on his own wedding day.
“Although my dad wasn’t there to share the most special day with us, that day I inherited a new family, and a new dad,” says Vanessa.
Vanessa and Chris, 27, kept to their vintage wedding theme with inclusions of vintage suitcases, greenery, and lace. The pair also ordered over one kilometre of fairy lights for their reception, to complete their overall vintage feel.
If given the chance to do it all again, Vanessa says she wouldn’t change a thing. She advises other couples embarking on the wedding planning journey to refrain from “spending the year before being nervous. The day is such a happy day!” And, she adds, “There is such a thing as post wedding blues, so enjoy every moment!”

Vanessa had her bridal shoes made to represent something old (vintage lace), something new (the shoes), something borrowed (the photo of her father), and something blue (the colour!)
Vanessa says the vintage/boho wedding dress she fell in love with from Fairytales Bridal Boutique was lighter and more comfortable than any of the other “heavy” dresses she tried on.

Chris and his groomsmen were dressed head to toe in Roger David. They perfectly matched the vintage theme with their suspenders, Gatsby caps and bow ties.
“We both worked two jobs for over a year to save for our big day,” says Vanessa.
Every guest went home with a hangover kit in hand, which they would have needed after the party DJ Masters created on the dance floor!
“It’s the little things that make me fall in love with Chris over and over again,” says Vanessa. “The city girl moved to the country with her country boy.”
