Springtime in the city: Rebecca and Michael’s Melbourne garden wedding

After moving to WA for love, Rebecca returned home with husband-to-be Michael for their Melbourne garden wedding.

The couple first met back in 2013 in Fremantle through Michael’s sister. “We were able to organise a date within a week of meeting and the rest is history,” Rebecca, 30, says.

She and Michael, also 30, dated long distance for a year before Rebecca made the move to Perth. Not long after, Michael popped the question.

Rebecca says that despite organising a Melbourne wedding from WA, the planning process was fairly smooth.

“We were lucky to have worked with such amazing vendors, who were happy to communicate with me via email, then meet and finalize everything at a later date. So thank you to them!” she says.

The couple knew they wanted a modern wedding that reflected their casual approach to life while also being a beautiful day.

They wed on the Dolphin Fountain Lawn at the beautiful Fitzroy Gardens on November 12, 2016 in front of 80 family and friends.

Celebrations followed at chic city laneway bar Mary Fortune, which Rebecca says turned into one big party.

“Our wedding reflected our personalities. We are both relaxed people and we just wanted our day to be fun,” she says.

“Everything from start to finish said ‘us’. The ceremony had humor and warmth to it, and the reception was a big party! We couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out.”

Rebecca treasured the time she had getting ready with her bridesmaids. “Our bridal prep was so much fun,” she says.

While Rebecca had been worried about the fickle Melbourne weather, the city turned on a perfect day for the garden ceremony.

Michael and his groomsmen were dressed to impress in classic suits from Opal Formal Wear.

The couple is full of praise for the team at Always Classic Cars. “Stuart (our chauffeur) was fabulous. He went out of his way to get us where we needed to go (including reversing a very long, very old car down a very narrow laneway!),” Rebecca says.

Weddings of Distinction took charge of the wedding decor, creating an elegant and romantic look for the reception.
