Sharna & Tom’s modern-minimalist River’s Edge Events wedding

Sharna and Tom’s love story took off at Flight Centre, where they both worked. Sharna, who was Tom’s manager, jokingly says, “It’s a boring story, but really, I was his manager… Not so boring.” Initially, Sharna had advised against hiring Tom due to his frequent job changes, almost making a life-changing mistake. But fate had other plans, turning their workplace into the starting point of their lifelong journey together.

On their anniversary, Tom planned a romantic weekend getaway to the Yarra Valley. Amid the breathtaking scenery, he got down on one knee and popped the question. “It was the most magical moment,” Sharna recalls. Of course, she said yes, setting the stage for their dream wedding.

Fast forward to February 24, 2024, their big day arrived with perfect weather and boundless excitement. With 135 guests gathered in Melbourne’s CBD, the ceremony and reception were set at the beautiful River’s Edge Events, a venue that perfectly captured their vision of an indoor setting with an outdoor feel. “We wanted something indoor with an outdoor feel to it, as we both love city life, as well as being in nature. We landed on Rivers Edge as we got the views of the city and the river, with large doors that opened the venue up. It had a modern feel, which matches our style to a tee.” Sharna explains.

The night before the wedding, Sharna and Tom spent time apart, each getting ready with their bridal parties. Their first look took place at The Grotto in Kings Domain, offering the perfect picturesque backdrop. The ceremony itself was held along the Yarra River, where the couple arrived by boat—a grand entrance that set the tone for the day.

Sharna’s brother officiated the ceremony, making it a deeply personal and special moment for everyone involved. After they were pronounced husband and wife, guests enjoyed gelato from Little Sugar Van, a delightful treat on a beautiful summer’s day.

Food was a significant aspect of their celebration, and the venue did not disappoint. Serving a 100% vegan cocktail menu with an Italian and Spanish theme, guests enjoyed a variety of delicious bites, including arancini balls, gnocchi, empanadas, tacos, and churros. “It was a cocktail event, so food was being served around; while the drinks were flowing, the dancing began right away and didn’t stop all night. There was also a Slovakian cultural dance midway through, that everyone got around and had a blast giving it a try,” says Sharna.

Choosing River’s Edge Events allowed them to have both the ceremony and reception in one location, with a distinct change of scenery. “Having everything in one place, yet with a different vibe for each part of the day, was exactly what we wanted,” Sharna notes.
