Chase Rothnie’s six weeks in a neck brace following a football accident saw him and Aimee Davidson pinching pennies trying to save up for their dream wedding.
Aimee and Chase had just taken out a mortgage on their first home when Chase, now 28, had a football accident that caused a protruding disc in his neck to compress his spine. Aimee, 25, says that after an emergency ambulance trip to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, luckily no surgical intervention was required.
“However, six weeks in a neck collar and no work made finances quite difficult as Chase had just started a new job,” she explains.
Because of this setback, the Victorian pair decided to cut their losses, forfeit their booking at a Mornington Peninsula venue, and have an intimate destination wedding in Fiji instead!
On August 5, 2017 Aimee and Chase said ‘I do’ at their Fiji wedding held at Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort on the Coral Coast.
“We had 35 people fly to Fiji from Australia to join in with the festivities,” Aimee says. “We were married in the most stunning chapel overlooking the Fijian coral coast waters. I was the most relaxed bride which is surprising as I normally get quite stressed!”
Aimee says that because of the many setbacks due to Chase’s injury, the pair believed financially they would never be able to get married. “I have now married the most amazing support person and my absolute best friend – and we couldn’t have done it in a more beautiful place than Fiji!”

Aimee provided the music for the ceremony, choosing to walk down the aisle to Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years.
Aimee wore a gorgeous Grace Loves Lace design featuring a stretch French lace bodice, spaghetti straps, a low back, a fully lined silk chiffon skirt, and a natural train. She completed the bridal look with a 2.8m silk chiffon veil, also from Grace Loves Lace.
Aimee says that while there were a few hiccups on the day as they didn’t have a rehearsal, nothing bothered her. “It was the most relaxed day. The Fijians made our wedding an absolute delight.”
“Our reception was beautifully set up with hessian coloured sashes, white drapes, and beautiful fairy lights.”
The following day, Aimee and Chase headed out with Videoticz Wedding Photography and Videography for a trash the dress photo shoot.
“Our photos are our most treasured memories and they turned out beautifully.
