A charity challenge helped turn Shirlyn and Tolga from workmates to something more.
“At first I thought that he did not like me at all because he barely ever said a word to me,” Shirlyn says.
“Then during a charity challenge that I was doing where I was to live on $2 of food a day for a week, Tolga gave me so many helpful pointers (little did I know at the time that he was an avid and resourceful outdoorsman).”
Once the challenge ended, Tolga took Shirlyn out for a big plate of chocolate pancakes and the rest is history.
The Sydney couple says they spent a “very long time” planning and re-planning every aspect of their classic spring wedding.
“There is just so much choice out there,” Shirlyn says.
The pair decided on Doltone House Venue & Catering Collection’s Jones Bay Wharf venue in Pyrmont for their October 1, 2017 wedding celebrated with 120 guests.
“The best thing that we did was have people that we really trusted as our bridal party and MC,” she says.
“Having someone who knew and loved us as our MC, instead of using the person that the venue supplied was amazing. He knew little things about us that no amount of prepping could have made.”

Shirlyn and Tolga said their ‘I dos’ with guidance from celebrant Barbara Cowley of Something Blue Weddings.
Shirlyn chose to wear an off-the-shoulder gown with elegant train from Brides of Sydney.
Tolga kept it classic in a tuxedo from Oscar Hunt Tailors.
“Even after months of meticulous planning, so many little things went wrong on the day. But honestly it just didn’t matter. All either of us can remember is how happy and in love we both felt. We hope that this is a reflection our married life together, perfectly imperfect,” Shirlyn says.
Large light-up letters added to the glam feel of the reception venue.
