Despite Stylist and Event Planner Ashley’s efforts for a fuss-free day in the sunshine, Mother Nature had other plans for her and Rick’s modern wedding held at Catalina Rose Bay on January 22, 2016.
“I wanted everything to look gorgeous but to run smoothly and be relaxed. We had people travelling from all over and we wanted to make sure the day suited ‘us’, but also showcased Sydney,” says the bride.
The day had its fair share of unexpected twists and turns, including a last-minute venue change due to torrential rain. However, newlyweds Ashley and Rick, aged 32 and 35 respectively, say they wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Catalina is beautiful in any weather. Literally nothing could rain on our parade. We got absolutely soaked during the photos, but we had fun. We wouldn’t change a thing.”

Ashley surprised everyone when she made a drastic change to her look the day of the wedding.
“I had grown out my hair for the lead up to the wedding, but a week before I was really feeling like I wanted a short, cropped look. So on the wedding day at home, I cut about 6 inches off!”
Her new look looked incredible with her ‘something borrowed’ — her mother’s veil.
Ashley had her and her bridesmaids’ gowns custom made for the event.
Klassic Kombiz provided two vintage Kombi vans for the modern wedding.
