Careful DIY styling and a unique setting ensured Nikita Acha and Alex Plowman’s modern elegant wedding was a day to remember.
The couple, from Mareeba, Queensland, chose the Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal, the perfect mix of old and new, for their understated celebrations.
The high school sweethearts, who started going out when they were 16, wed in the terminal’s gardens in front of 180 guests on September 20, 2014.
Guests then enjoyed drinks on the wharf while the bride and groom, both 27, and their wedding party had their photographs taken.
Celebrations then moved inside the terminal itself, which had been meticulously styled by the happy couple and their families.
“The reception was a compilation of good food, speeches that made you laugh and speeches that made you cry, lots of dancing and lots of love,” Nikita says.
“Our wedding was modern yet understated and elegant and the best day of our lives.”

SUNA Shoes and Accessories provided the perfect pair of heels for Nikita’s big day.
“Alex and I were together for nine years before Alex popped the question,” Nikita says. “He proposed on a beautiful day in October with both of our brothers and sisters at our favourite local beach.”
“The terminal is a combination of history and modern design, with the original timber doors and exposed timber trusses combined with modern polished concrete flooring and industrial fittings,” Nikita says of the venue.
Spectrum Sounds DJs kept the party going well into the night.
