It took Aaron May all of one month to confess his love to Candice Di Prinzio.
“It was love at New Years Eve kiss,” says Candice, 30. “The first ‘I love you’ popped out after only one month! Two and a half years later we were engaged, and after six months of planning we had the most magical wedding day.”
Candice says ever since she was a child she always wanted a wedding that was ‘a little different’ and a whole lot of fun. “Coming from an Italian background, family and food are key to a celebration, and these items were at the top of our list.” This became the cornerstone of their retro festival wedding.
The pair planned their wedding in six months, taking care to attend to every little detail.
Candice and Aaron, 27, chose Perth City Farm to house their loved up fiesta. “We wanted an outdoor and indoor area, and a community feel,” says Candice. “The venue was a blank canvas so the vision was all ours from start to finish.”
On April 30, 2017 the WA pair said ‘I do’ among 120 family and friends at their wedding filled to the brim with colour and special touches.
The day utilised local vendors and produce, and strayed from the formalities of a traditional wedding. “It was bright – a big party full of family and friends, and totally us!” recalls Candice.

Aaron donned a navy suit, floral bowtie and tan leather shoes from Roger David.
Candice’s bride squad was free to each choose their own dress style, unified by mismatched flower crowns.
Unique Perth furniture and homewares store East West Designs played backdrop to some colourful, arty shots by photographer Ryan Chatfield. “They let us have photos in the shop on on the mural walls,” tells Candice.
This retro stretch limo was the couple’s “something borrowed” from local Mandurah friends.
Candice wanted a gown that she felt comfortable in, was a two-piece, and didn’t have underwiring – and this proved difficult to find at a bridal boutique. Luckily, she found a designer to work with her vision, and ended up with two tops, a cape, a skirt, and pants to create two different bridal looks!
Dinner was served from assorted food trucks including wood fired pizza, paella, arancini and a grazing table, and drinks from a vintage caravan to perfectly complement the retro festival theme. Donuts and ice-cream were served for dessert.
“We wanted guests to feel comfortable and entertained, so we hired a magician and caricature sketch artist, and had a toy box with skipping ropes, giant jenga and a piñata,” describes Candice.
Candice’s sister undertook a celebrancy course especially to wed the couple. “Approval came through one week before the wedding to our relief!” recalls Candice.
The ceremony was filled with personal touches, including a ‘ring warming’ celebration where their Michael Hill rings were tied to a macrame ring and given love by guests before the pair said ‘I do’, as well as a hand binding ceremony.
Offering a blank canvas, Perth City Farm was the perfect venue to bring to life their colourful, retro-vintage vibe with a fiesta twist!
During their first dance, guests wrapped Candice and Aaron in colourful streamers – a tradition in Italian weddings.
