A family holiday to Hamilton Island was the perfect setting for James Robinson to pop the question to love of his life Elissa Nelson.
However, it was not all smooth sailing, and poor weather derailed plans to propose while on a helicopter ride.
“He kept having to push the day back until eventually he decided it just wasn’t going to work! We ended up getting a break in the weather one afternoon later in the week so we all (me, James, Mum, Dad, my two sisters, brother-in-law and nephew) went to the yacht club to have a drink and he proposed out on the deck at sunset in front of everyone,” Elissa, 25, recalls.
“He had asked both of my parents before we went away so Mum was aware and she was able to take some amazing photos. It was so special that James did that in front of my family and that they got to be a part of it.”
The Melbourne couple headed to Daylesford for their elegant country wedding at Sault Restaurant, chosen for its picturesque setting and fine food.
Elissa and James, 26, wed on November 20, 2015 in front of 76 family and friends.
“We got married in the barn on site at Sault which sits between two beautiful fields of lavender and it was just gorgeous,” Elissa says.
“The reception took place in the restaurant, which has stunning views across the property, and the food was incredible.”

James and his groomsmen looked stylish in satin-trim suits and bow ties from Roger David.
Elissa’s beautiful Lazaro gown was made in New York and sourced from Eternal Bridal.
“Even if it wasn’t raining on the day we were going to get married in the barn,” Elissa says – and why not? Look at that view!
Always Classic Cars ensured the wedding party travelled in style, while also providing a unique prop for the wedding photos by Ateia Photography.
The couple’s glitter-topped wedding cake was designed to match the bridesmaids’ dresses.
