“You had me at hello” may as well be the headline for the relationship of Lahra Cumins and Alex Macnab.
The pair, aged 43 and 51 respectively, exchanged a “polite hello” at a local coffee shop in Perth, according to bride Lahra. A sit down chat soon led to a beginning of a relationship.
Their intimate wedding with 65 guests on June 2, 2013 focused on family and friends and Lahra put her own design skills to work. Owner of her business Lala Design, she was able to create some unique touches for the day, starting with the invitations. “Each flower on the invite was made by hand, finished with dried dodo vines, then combined with embossed damask paper, layered with colours of nude, aubergine, latte,” Lahra explains.
“A small pocket inside held the RSVP postcard with song request and the gift suggestion.” To top it off they were hand delivered in a scented box! Her talent also extended to the venue stationery and personalised items like the cocktail napkins and coasters.
There was a very special touch for the 6pm ceremony at Miss Kitty Saloon, which brought many to tears. “The whole venue had over 150 candles lit, we had a ‘ring warming blessing’ where our entire guest handled and blessed our wedding rings,” says Lahra.

Lahra wore soft pink flats, covered in Swarovski crystals.
“Our main style was personal to us as a couple, right down to a lot of paper decorations made by me,” says Lahra.
The cake was Alex’s favourite: lemon curd. “Three tiers of vanilla sponge, soaked in lemon syrup, layered with lemon curd and finished with Italian white meringue and coconut,” describes Lahra.
“During the evening we had a roaming Magician – Robbie T,” smiles Lahra. “He surprised and entertained everyone, young and old.”
