Katrina Herden got the proposal of her dreams when high school sweetheart Leigh Gereige decided it was time to pop the question.
“It was my 25th birthday when Leigh made me breakfast in bed. He wrote a beautiful letter and asked me to read it aloud, as I got to the bottom I read the words, ‘Will you marry me?’ and I looked up and he was on bended knee with a one-carat cushion-cut diamond ring. We both cried and I said ‘Yes’!” Katrina, now 27 says.
The Sydney pair waited two years before marrying in their classic wedding on August 14, 2016.
“We were married at Bicentennial Park Homebush… in front of our family and friends, and the reception with 250 guests was at WatervieW, also in Bicentennial Park,” Katrina says.
The bride, and groom Leigh, 26, kept with a silver and purple theme for their classic wedding, which flowed from the bridesmaids’ dresses to the elegantly-styled reception.
“We entered the reception with a Greek band with a drummer and fireworks… The best part was walking into the venue and having a party with our friends and family!” Katrina says.
“It was a mix of culture! Lebanese, Greek and Australian – the party was never-ending and I’ve never seen such enjoyment from my family and friends.”
