Katherine Gialamatzsis and Torren Foote had been seeing one another years before Torren finally proposed.
The pair were holidaying on the South Australian coast, and sitting on a cliff top watching the sun set into the ocean when Torren popped the question. “It was the most amazing backdrop for something I had been looking forward to my whole life,” recalls Kate, 29.
Kate and Torren, 28, embarked on their two-year wedding planning journey – choosing to host a summer wedding surrounded by “the beautiful colours of nature,” Kate describes.
On January 21, 2017 the Melbourne pair wed before 122 family and friends at their summer garden wedding held at The Refectory Werribee Park, Victoria.
“It was important to us to have the ceremony and reception in the same place, so our guests could arrive in the afternoon and relax into the evening without the worry of changing locations,” explains Kate. This attention to detail set the tone for the evening of celebration, laughter, dancing, and happiness that ensued.
Kate advises anyone planning on getting a spray tan before the wedding to stay away from water afterwards! “I spilt water on my chest 10 minutes after I’d had my spray tan and had to rush back for touch ups before they closed!” she laughs. “Definitely funny to look back on, but I did not find it funny at the time!”

Kate’s elegant gold point wedding shoes were purchased from Shoes of Prey.
Torren and his five groomsmen were on-trend in their navy tuxedos, Torren standing out in a pink dinner shirt and hand-tied bow tie.
The pair chose Megan Thompson to officiate their marriage. “As soon as we met Megan, we loved what she was all about. She wrote a beautiful, romantic and funny ceremony that fit us perfectly.”
“My dress is the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my life!” smiles Kate of her Suzanne Harward white high-neck gown in Swiss guipure lace.
The Melbourne couple chose The Refectory Werribee Park because of its rich history and gorgeous aesthetic. “We fell in love with the newly renovated Refectory wing the moment we walked in,” says Kate.
Kate’s gorgeous bouquet went perfectly with the burgundy bridesmaid dresses. “The colours looked amazing in The Refectory gardens!”
Bursaria Fine Foods, exclusive caterers to The Refectory, received the highest compliment from guests: “The best food they have ever eaten!”
“Our wedding was a celebration of love,” says Kate. “It celebrated the good in life, the good in people, and just how amazing the world can be when you find your perfect half.”
