After initially planning a large, expensive wedding, Jody and Simon stripped everything back and focused only on what was important to them.
“After our engagement, we deliberated over a few days and went from an expensive wedding for everyone else, to a small, simple but significant sunset bohemian wedding with 18 of our closest family and friends in our hometown,” says the bride.
The ceremony, held on September 5, 2019, was a beautiful intimate affair with guests standing alongside Jody and Simon to witness the exchange of their personally written vows. The group then went on to The Dispensary in Mackay, QLD, where drinks flowed and guests enjoyed one another’s company in the cosy, candlelit setting.
“In an era of weddings that are driven by money, status and Instagram, we took inspiration from our parents’ and grandparents’ wedding albums and reflected on what’s really important,” recalls Jody. “A wedding is one day — a marriage is a lifetime. I hope when our children and grandchildren look at our photo album, they find the same thing we did — two people madly in love.”

Jody and Simon, aged 29 and 28, wrote their own vows to express their love for one another.
Jody recommends other couples to consider planning a wedding that “reflects who you truly are as individuals and as a couple. Only do things that 100% resonate with you and give you meaning.”
“We are so at peace with the money we spent, the people who attended, the energy invested and the way the day looked and felt. We wouldn’t change a thing.”
Jody purchased her incredible gown from Gladstone Bridal Boutique.
