Jo and Nic's coastal-chic Freedom Shores wedding

Jo and Nic’s romantic Hamilton Island proposal led to their dreamy beachside wedding at Freedom Shores, Airlie Beach.

In planning their celebration for November 6, 2023, Jo and Nic wanted relaxed and beachy vibes, but with a formal tone and elegant aesthetic. Freedom Shores, with its laidback style of Whitsundays luxury, was the perfect fit.

“The best thing we did in planning our wedding was ensure we, and our guests, could be relaxed and comfortable for the whole experience,” explains Jo. “A big part of this was choosing a venue where we could stay the night before and after the wedding, so there was no need for travel or rushing around.”

On the morning of her wedding to Nic, Jo prepared in the comfort of a Freedom Shores suite with her bridal party. Erin Flemming of Lohst Wedding Hair and Makeup worked her magic with an understated yet striking wedding day look for Jo. The bride dressed in a fitted gown with a low cowl back which suited the glamorous beach setting to a T.

Airlie Beach celebrant Kylie McIntosh officiated the ceremony on Freedom Shores’ sprawling lawn space with 75 guests in attendance. After the “I do”s were said and enthusiastic congratulations were given, Jo and Nic slipped away with their photographer, Alyce Holzy. The guests mingled while enjoying drinks and canapés while Alyce captured the couple’s joy, excitement, and love for each other in a series of beautiful beach portraits.

A spacious marquee hosted Jo and Nic’s ceremony with styling by Teepeevents & Styling. The team used custom neon sign, chic lounge seating, and neutral florals to give the space a modern edge. Aquava Boutique Catering served a delicious two-course sit-down dinner which gave the celebration the formality the couple were seeking. “The team from Aquava did an absolutely incredible job. They were able to accomodate all dietary requirements and delivered an amazing menu. They provided a two course meal, dinner and dessert as well as our post ceremony canapés,” says Jo.

After the formalities, the outdoor bar and DJ-led dance floor was waiting as guests spilled out of the marquee to celebrate under the stars.

We wanted an outdoor venue that still had a formal vibe. We also wanted a venue that we could have both the reception and ceremony at not only for the convenience but so ourselves and guests could sit back and relax without having to travel between venues. Freedom Shores was the perfect fit for this as they had many ceremony and reception locations for us to choose from, all with stunning backdrops and locations.
