When Jennifer de Haan first met Mathew Edwards she was instantly weak at the knees.
“Mat and I met six years ago through a friend who I was working with,” Jen, 28, explains.
“I was instantly intimidated by Mat. He was a smooth talker, confident and very good looking! One night when I was out with my girlfriend she told me that Mat thought I was attractive and I told her I felt the same about him.”
The rest is history – they went on their first date within a week and moved in together a year later.
Mat’s work in the military took the couple from Sydney to Newcastle, and it was there they held their rustic floral wedding on March 25, 2017.
Their waterfront ceremony at Harbourview Newcastle was not far from where Mat, 30, had proposed, and was held in front of 80 friends and family.
“I thought I would cry walking down the aisle but I didn’t because I felt lucky to be marrying such an amazing man,” Jen says.
The celebrations continued at the venue, which was adorned with roses and baby’s breath.
“Our wedding day was just so much fun,” Jen says.
“It was also full of emotion. My sister who was maid of honor gave birth at 2am that next morning (two hours after our wedding ended). I think my niece is similar to me – she just can’t miss a beat and she just wanted to join the party!”

Jen says her strapless gown from Luv Bridal was a design she never thought she would go for. “I desperately wanted a long sleeve dress. I finally chose a strapless dress… It was beautiful,” she says.
Experienced celebrant Sonia Hartman conducted the couple’s ceremony.
Mat and his groomsmen were dressed to impress thanks to Spurling Formalwear.
These multi-way dusty pink dresses from Bridesmaids Etc were each twisted into their own neckline.
“It was a day Mat and I will definitely never forget. I can’t wait for the next amazing adventures of our lives to begin,” Jen says.
