Three weeks out from the rustic romance wedding of 29-year-old Sarah and 31-year-old Nathan, their venue went into liquidation and it looked to be all over red rover.
That is until The Terrace in the Royal Botanic Gardens at South Yarra offered to host the couple’s wedding reception – for free. “I had contacted numerous venues, with two in mind that luckily had our date available,” Sarah says of the mad rush after the bad news. “It was reassuring how kind and thoughtful the wedding coordinators I had dealt with were from these venues.”
Two weeks out from the wedding, they needed to make a decision on which location. “I received a phone call from one of the venues and they had asked if I was able to drop past to have a chat,” Sarah explains. “When I went in, the ‘chat’ turned out to be the grossest act of kindness my fiancé and I had experienced.”
“The 14th of July, 2018 was truly perfect. There was a buzz in the room, everyone was feeling it,” smiles the bride. “The venue looked perfect: fairy lights, burlap, burgundy and blush florals, greenery, books, candles, cherished family member photos displayed – total rustic romance.”

“I had two dresses – one that I wore for most of the wedding and another that I wore after 9pm,” says Sarah.
“Everyone says that their wedding day is perfection, the best day of their lives. They’re right,” beams Sarah.
“My fiancé and I felt so lucky knowing the lengths our loved ones would go to to help us in this difficult situation,” the bride says of when their venue pulled out.
