Mellisa Chambers’ fear of heights may have delayed Scott Platt’s proposal, but it was hurdle worth overcoming.
The Perth couple, aged 27 and 28 respectively, were holidaying in Japan in 2015. It was Mellisa’s first time in the snow and Scott had organised a snowmobile tour that was supposed to take them up to the top of the mountain to enjoy the view. Instead, they ended up in a paddock of snow doing doughnuts!
“Seeing that Scott was disappointed, I suggested that they head up on the chairlifts as high as they could get before I got too frightened. Up we went, as high as the … second chairlift,” laughs Mellisa. “Scott then tried to take me to the edge of the mountainside, but I wasn’t handling the height very well.” Nevertheless, he found his moment to pop the question. “Through all the happy tears, I gave Scott a resounding yes, and was then forced to board down a double diamond run to get to the bottom of the mountain,” explains Mellisa.
They married at their elegant wedding on October 21, 2016 with 74 guests. The ceremony and reception took place at Caversham House in Perth. “It was truly the most amazing day filled with lots of love, glitter and flowers a plenty,” says the bride.
