Melissa and Daniel wanted a destination wedding that reflected their unique style of romance — authentic, intimate, and classic. A Tasmanian getaway at Freycinet Lodge was the perfect solution.
After a Blue Mountains proposal, it seemed only fitting that this pair would wed amidst a dramatic, mountainous landscape. Tasmanian wedding photographer Alysa Nemeth captured the day at Freycinet Lodge in Cole’s Harbour.
“We always wanted a relaxed yet classy destination wedding where we had the ability to select a package to suit a small celebration,” says Melissa of their wedding planning experience. “We didn’t want to follow traditions that didn’t suit us. Freycinet Lodge was very flexible.”
In addition to a picturesque wedding location, Freycinet Lodge provided accommodation for the party, all of who had travelled from interstate. To welcome their guests, Melissa and Daniel hosted informal drinks in the venue’s bar on the night before their wedding, where they excitedly mingled with their loved ones.
Melissa and Daniel exchanged vows on May 14, 2023, in front of 30 guests. For the ceremony, they utilised Freycinet Lodge’s expansive deck, overlooking a spectacular view of the rocky outcrop. The bride chose an ethereal and romantic gown embellished with delicate floral applique and a subtle train.
Alysa Nemeth photographed the occasion with her signature documentary style. “Alysa was wonderful!” says Melissa. “She understood what style of photos we wanted and made us feel very comfortable. Plus, her guidance was so helpful in suggesting great photo opportunities.”
The ceremony flowed into the reception, beginning with a toast of Tasmanian sparkling wine. Inside, a long table lunch was served on tables carefully decorated with copper accents, lush green leaves, and twinkling fairy lights. Guests enjoyed cocktails and a seafood buffet with delights from the local coastline: fresh oysters, prawns, and grilled fish served with sides, salads, and meats.
The wedding cake was a take on zingy lemon meringue pie, with yellow flowers set against architectural peaks of Italian meringue. After cutting the cake, Melissa and Daniel played their favourite tunes through a speaker so that the party could begin.
A wedding package suitable for a small guest list and the food was very important to us. Freycinet Lodge ticked all the boxes. We wouldn’t change anything. The day goes so quickly — we would love to take it all in again!
