Perth-based mine workers Tanya Joines and Deane Austin swapped the dust and dirt of their day jobs for the fiesta fun of a Mexican wedding.
Fourteen close friends and family made the journey with them to Isla Murjenes, Mexico, for their Day of the Dead-inspired beachside wedding on February 25, 2015.
“Neither of us had been to Isla Murjenes or Mexico so it was a gamble, but everything fell into place,” Tanya, 30, says.
She and Deane, 37, have a love of everything Mexican and the bride-to-be spent hours collecting sombreros, Day of the Dead trinkets and pinatas.
“I tried to incorporate everything Mexican for a bit of individuality and fun but still tried to keep it pretty simple as it was such a beautiful setting,” Tanya says.
Tanya says their destination wedding was even better than they could have hoped for.
“Our Mexican wedding was fun, quirky, gorgeous, carefree, a dream come true for me and a wedding our guests will never forget.”

The ceremony was held with the water as the backdrop at Mirada Beach Club.
Tanya and Deane met at work, and travel to South America was always a priority for the bride. “I had been dreaming of it my whole life,” she says.
The Mirada Beach Club also hosted the reception, whose lighting gave a romantic glow.
As well as Tanya’s strapless wedding gown, she also had Luv Bridal create a white evening dress to wear for the wedding dance and reception.
