Emily and Darcy ‘strike gold’ and celebrate elegant seaside wedding

When Emily and Darcy first met working in Western Australia’s goldfields, they struck gold in more ways than one.

“I grew up in Melbourne and Darcy in country South Australia, and so it was very lucky that we met each other the way we did… we hit it off immediately,” says Emily.

The couple eventually settled in Melbourne and, on their five-year anniversary, Darcy proposed in the coastal town Lorne with fish n chips and an aquamarine ring – Emily’s birthstone. “We [therefore] chose to have our wedding in Lorne, as it is such a special place to us as a couple, and we could have family and friends from South Australia and Melbourne spend the weekend with us, explains Emily. “We had more of a wedding festival than a wedding day!”

The ceremony was at a Catholic church “which has incredible doors on the side that open up so you can see the ocean,” explains the bride.

The newlyweds, aged 29 and 30, then took photos along the beach before dancing the night away at Lorne Surf Life Saving Club.

“It was a warm night so catching the breeze on the beautiful balcony overlooking the water was such a bonus.”

Emily and Darcy met working at a gold mine in WA, 500km from Kalgoorlie.
