“Why don’t we have a surprise wedding?”
It was a suggestion from groom-to-be Ken that set the wheels in motion for his marriage to Ella. The couple, both aged 31, married at their vintage wedding on April 28, 2018 with 75 guests. “It was little fuss, our nearest and dearest, good food, drinks and most importantly … quality time!”
The couple took inspiration from their wedding venue, The Point Bar and Grill in Perth, to help style their day. “They had fantastic geometric shaped light shades, so we took that and used those elements in our invitation and reception and ceremony decorations,” Ella says. “I also love succulents and thought it was a great idea to pot those as centrepieces so then there was no need for disposable fresh flowers.” After the wedding she pulled them out a re-potted them so they could live on and “tell another story”.
Ella and Ken opted for a cocktail reception with finger food: “I think there is something so special seeing you closest friends and family coming together, enjoying the food and having a wonderful time.”

“It was one afternoon at my parents discussing options, my mum (Maggie) said: ‘Why don’t you try on my wedding dress?’ With nothing to lose I did and I fell in love straight away,” says the bride of her gown.
The bride’s beautifully natural make-up was done by Alana Newall Makeup Artistry.
“Overlooking the Swan River watching the sunset we drank our prosecco,” says Ella.
The happy couple were married by Liz Underdown who services Perth and its surrounds.
“I made my own wedding cake! I am not a professional baker to say the least but I do love to do it,” beams Ella.
