The bold colours, touch of glitter and iconic black and white stripes of a New York designer inspired the styling of Kristy Morcom and Peter Elkhuizen’s big day.
The Melbourne couple’s Kate Spade wedding borrowed the designer’s bold style while giving graphic designer Kristy, 31, plenty of scope to apply her creative skills.
Kristy and Peter, 32, met online and after about a year-and-a-half together Peter popped the question on a night out overlooking the Melbourne skyline.
The couple were married by Peter’s father, a Uniting Church minister, on March 13, 2015 at St Andrew’s Gardiner Uniting Church, Glen Iris. Ninety friends and family witnessed the ceremony and bride Kristy says they felt blessed to be wed by Peter’s dad. “Not many people can say they were married by their dad/father-in- law!” she says.
Celebrations continued at Leonda by the Yarra, where black and white table runners, glitter candle holders and bright blooms allowed the Kate Spade theme to shine. “I added the gold glitter to all the candle holders by hand (all 60 of them), made the place cards, and my mum sewed the table runners,” Kristy says of her DIY efforts.
The graphic designer also showed off her artistic side with the invitations, menus and seating chart.
“Everything ran perfectly to plan and we couldn’t have imagined a better day,” she says. “The speeches were hilarious and there was plenty of dancing! It was so lovely to have all our friends and family together for our special day.”

Florist Helen Dillon created the vibrant bouquets, “she did an amazing job and threw in a few exotic flowers too,” praises Kristy.
Beautiful bride Kristy glowed thanks to a little help from Livingdolls Makeup Artistry.
Kristy’s nephew made for a cute pageboy in a suit from Ollie’s Place Kidswear.
Peter and his groomsmen were on theme in charcoal suits and magenta ties from Formal Red.
“Our wedding was certainly one to remember, we couldn’t stop smiling the entire day!” Kristy says.
AB FAB Cakes supplied the couple’s two-tier creation complete with gold spots in keeping with the Kate Spade theme.
