Married life got off to a soggy start for Kayla Skinner and Stephen de Casanove – but it didn’t bother the Brisbane pair one bit.
“Ten minutes into the ceremony the sky turned black and it poured with rain,” Kayla, 24, explains of their Mount Tamborine celebrations held at O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat.
“As fast as the storm rolled in it was gone, leaving a picture-perfect afternoon.”
After Steve, 24, proposed while on holidays in the Rocky Mountains, the couple spent two months planning their rainforest wedding.
The couple wed on March 13, 2015 in front of 50 guests at the retreat’s Moonlight Crag, a clifftop deck taking in breathtaking views.
The reception celebrations were held at the venue’s Lost World Conference Centre, which was decked out with help from Ivy & Bleu, to create an elegant look with splashes of yellow.
The high school sweethearts say despite the unexpected downpour, there is nothing they would change about their special day.
“Everything was just how we wanted it and the spontaneous storm was a representation of Steve and I,” Kayla says.

The couple’s rings came courtesy of Michael Hill Jeweller, including Kayla’s diamond solitaire sparkler.
The three-tiered Moonlight Crag deck was the perfect place to take in the views and gain the first glimpse of the beautiful bride.
There wasn’t much chance of weather-proofing the ceremony when the heavens opened on Steve and Kayla, luckily the loved-up pair and their guests could see the funny side.
Kayla and Steve dated for eight years before Steve popped the question.
When it came to choosing a wedding cake, the couple opted for a naked cake design adorned with flowers.
