Childcare educator Carmel Scambiatterra and AFL player Paul Puopolo were focused on creating a relaxed atmosphere for almost 350 guests at their classic wedding.
But before wedding planning began, there was a proposal that 29-year-old Paul had to ensure Carmel, 27, would never suspect!
“Paul had always knew that I’m the type of person that picks up on surprises, so he knew the typical cliched dinner proposal was going to be obvious and would ruin the surprise,” explains the bride. “He decided to make it all happen in the comfort of our own new home.”
Carmel says she was overwhelmed with surprise when she found Paul on bended knee. “It was the best moment ever.”
The pair, who met at one of Paul’s football games, married The Monastery (St Pauls) church in SA with 345 guests on October 22, 2016. A reception at Festival Function Centre followed.
“We didn’t really have a theme but we aimed for a relaxed elegant indoor wedding,” explains Carmel. “We had so many people telling us how much fun they had and they haven’t been to a wedding like this before.”

The couple chose a videographer, I Do Cinema, to work alongside Belle Photo, capturing moments to cherish later.
The bride opted for a smokey-eye make-up look, the perfect match for her stunning dark features.
“Take it all in on the actual day, as it goes by so quickly. With a blink of an eye all is all over and done with,” explains Carmel.
The couple took advantage of the wineries for some epic wedding photos.
With the help of her florist, Carmel transformed the space at Festival Function Centre into an elegant relaxed indoor garden theme.
