Kalgoorlie lovebirds Bianca Johnston and Troy Stidworthy threw an “elegant nerd extravaganza” for their pop culture wedding on January 14, 2017.
The couple, aged 28 and 34 respectively, married with a ceremony at Fremantle Round House and reception at Esplanade Hotel Fremantle with their 65 guests. The grand event included a Batman celebrant, centerpieces crafted into individual fandoms, video game consoles to keep guests entertained and, Halo Spartans and Warmachine characters to escort the newlyweds around the venue.
“Troy had proposed with a comic book montage he’d created of our lives together so far, it was amazingly heartfelt and totally us,” explains Bianca. “Little did he know that this created the stepping stone for our wedding theme.”
The bride and her bridesmaids wore customised Converse to fit the theme. “We glitzed them while keeping them geeky,” smiles the bride. It was only fitting she walked down the aisle in those Converse to the Jurassic Park theme song.
“Our wedding was extremely unique and personalised with every detail. It was memorable to us and all of our guests,” says the bride. “Troy is the Han Solo to my Leia!”

The couple had a really fun engagement shoot before the wedding with Perth photographer Piotrek Ziolkowski. “He went outside conventional photography,” praises Bianca. “He was great.”
The fantasy theme still had room for traditional elegance. Bianca wore a classic strapless white wedding gown encrusted with crystals and teamed with an embroidered scalloped-edge veil.
There were pops of colour and hints of the comic theme everywhere.
Even celebrant Brad Whitelock dressed up for the occasion!
Decked out in dark navy suits, with turquoise ties to match the bridesmaids, Troy and his groomsmen were dressed by Roger David.
This fantastic cake from Cupid’s Delight had a traditional front, while the back showcased the bride and groom’s favorite games.
Bianca praises Belle Johnstone, Esplanade Hotel Fremantle‘s wedding coordinator. “She was amazing and made the night flow perfectly!”
