A dance-off with a difference brought professional dancers Sammy and Mikee into each other’s lives.
“We met at a dance battle. Mikee was dancing in a show in Las Vegas that had a six-month
contract at Jupiters on the Gold Coast,” Sammy explains. “A mutual friend had set up a dance event for all for the Brisbane dancers to battle all of the Americans and afterwards it became one big dance party. At the end of it, Mikee got my details.”
A proposal in Rome followed and the couple began planning their classic wedding in Brisbane.
Grand St Stephen’s Cathedral hosted the traditional ceremony on March 11, 2017 in front of 70 friends and family.
In choosing the reception venue, Rydges Hotel South Bank, Sammy wanted to showcase her city at its best.
“We had so many guests fly in from America so the view for the reception meant a lot to me. I
wanted to show off how pretty Brisbane was, so we chose Rydges because of its stunning views,” the bride says.
The night’s biggest stress came when it was time for the couple to hit the dancefloor.
“It was Mikee’s job to put together the first dance. Everyone really enjoyed it and I think we were able to live up to everyone’s expectations. Phew!”

Sammy’s gorgeous ballgown perfectly suited the elegant wedding theme.
Sammy says the key to her love-filled relationship with Mikee is sharing the same values and goals and being silly together. “We let out our inner child and be crazy together,” she says.
A bridal party of dancers made for some spectacular wedding photograph’s in Brisbane’s CBD.
“Our favourite moment was at the end of the night when we went back to the room together as husband and wife and had a giggle. We survived! Everyone was happy. We are married and in love,” Sammy says.
