Simple and beautiful was the design theme for Emily McMahon and Ethan Horswell’s rustic farm wedding on August 26, 2017.
The pair engaged a stylist to help to decorate the event with the aim of creating a “backyard feel”. “The fire pits outside the venue gave our wedding a backyard feel which is exactly what we wanted,” explains Emily, 24 of her wedding with Ethan, also 24. “We were told by so many of our guests that our wedding was by far the nicest wedding they had been to yet, simply because of this vibe.”
The usually windy Blue Mountains were calm for the couple’s day, with a ceremony and reception at Collits Inn. “As soon as the ceremony ended the children (and adults) were straight into the lawn games we had bought or made,” said Emily. “It was a real sight to see everyone so relaxed and enjoying themselves.” Life-size noughts and crosses, hula hoops, bowling and a Jenga were all part of the fun!
“There were no fireworks, or gas machines, or ridiculously large floral arrangements and centrepieces, it was simple, beautiful, and most importantly, real,” smiles the bride.

Emily was cutting it fine when buying her wedding shoes – grabbing some just days before!
“Ethan’s ring that he originally picked did not make it on time for the day,” explains Emily. “But we had one express posted for the day!”
Justine Milne married the couple in the gardens. Justine promptes herself as a bubbly and energetic celebrant!
“Wow! I can’t even put into words how amazing our photographers were. They paid so much attention to tiny details and it shows,” smiles Emily of Fiona and Bobby.
The bride and her crew held simple and elegant bunches of baby’s breath as bouquets.
The couple’s cake was recreated from a photo and Emily says the baker “nailed it!”
