Minimalist with a Texan twist: Emily and Dann’s Assembly Yard wedding

It was minimalist elegance all the way for this gorgeous couple as they exchanged vows at Assembly Yard in Fremantle on March 18, 2022, in the presence of 100 guests.

Margaritas, comfort food, and a special visit from “fur-son” Baxter made Emily and Dann’s Assembly Yard wedding an authentic and unforgettable wedding celebration.

When Emily organised a party to celebrate Dann’s thirtieth birthday with close friends and family, she perhaps didn’t expect him to one-up her with a marriage proposal the morning of. Later that day, surrounded by their overjoyed loved ones, Dann’s birthday became an impromptu engagement party. It was with this brand of fun-loving romance that the pair celebrated their wedding in the beautiful port town of Fremantle, at Assembly Yard event space.

In planning their modern and elegant wedding, Emily and Dann enlisted the help of Darcy, one of Easy Weddings’ Wedding Planning Specialists. “Getting to know Emily and Dann’s story and personal wedding style was such a fun experience,” says Darcy. “Each couple is so unique, and finding the perfect vendors is definitely an art!”

Emily and Dann chose Assembly Yard for its ceremony-to-reception versatility and modern warehouse aesthetic.  Statement florals and classic, minimalist styling brought the space to life. “I’m an architect,” explains Emily, “so doing all of the venue styling was a fun way to flex my creative skills outside of work. I also made all of our stationary myself including custom labels for the bottled cocktail party favours.”

For their garden ceremony, Emily wore a minimalist-chic gown in draped ivory matte silk with rouched shoulder detailing. The look was accented by a pair of heels, adorned with eye-catching bows, in an emerald green hue as a nod to Emily’s blue-green parti sapphire engagement ring. The towering heels were later swapped for a comfortable pair of Birkenstocks — in crisp white for the occasion!

After the ceremony, the celebrations flowed seamlessly into a cocktail style reception. “We didn’t want a formal sit down dinner, but it was still important to us that our guests were well fed. That doesn’t always happen at a cocktail style event. Dann grew up in Texas, so we wanted to bring some Texan flare to our day.” Guests enjoyed tacos, tostadas, mac and cheese croquettes, southern fried chicken with slaw, and crispy pork belly, as well as a delicious late night paella.

With margaritas in hand, Emily and Dann took to the floor with the phenomenal Bakers Boy Band on stage.  The first dance was a romantic and dramatic choreographed sequence, which transitioned into a cheeky Texan-style boot-scoot with the bridal party.

We had a lot of help from the amazing Darcy at Easy Weddings with booking our vendors. She put us in touch with our band, photographer and transport vendors. There are so many wedding vendors out there, and it can sometimes be a bit overwhelming working out which one to pick. We also had a very tight budget to work with, so having Darcy on board helped us find vendors that were incredibly good at their jobs and came in at very reasonable price points.

Dann and the groomsmen, and the bridesmaids and flower girls were chauffeured to the wedding by Lavish Limos, who we booked through Easy Weddings. The team at Lavish Limos made organising transport an absolute dream. They worked out the timing for us to make sure there was adequate buffer time accommodated in our schedule for unexpected traffic.
