The Ferris wheel might not be the most thrilling ride at the fun park, but it provided plenty of butterflies for Ashley Ryan and husband-to-be Craig Hopfe.
The Toongabbie, NSW, pair dated in high school and a spin on the Ferris wheel at Sydney’s Royal Easter Show was one of their first dates. Therefore, it was only fitting after the pair reconnected years later that Craig, 28, should propose at the top of the Ferris wheel at Luna Park.
“He had some mates help with the proposal; they met him in the bathroom to give him the ring so he didn’t have to carry it on the rides all day. I had absolutely no idea,” bride Ashley, 27, explains.
The pair held their classic wedding at the Oakhill College chapel at Castle Hill on November 3, 2012 in front of 130 guests.
The reception was held at The Sebel Hawkesbury Valley, which was styled to incorporate the couple’s theme Love is… a cartoon series from the 1970s.
Guests partied on into the night and Ashley says she could not be happier with the day.
“We had the most amazing wedding day and it was exactly what we wanted for ourselves. It was a day spent celebrating love and we have so many great memories that we continue to reminisce and laugh about,” she says.

There were hints of purple throughout the day, from Ashley’s gorgeous bouquet to her violet bridal heels.
“The chapel at the school is only available to ex-students, which made it extra special,” Ashley says of the couple’s ceremony venue.

Instead of a guest book, the couple had a big frame with love hearts on it and asked guests to finish the sentence Love is…
