Disguised as an engagement party, Anda, 32, and Karl, 43, planned their surprise wedding to keep the focus on “the love that we share”.
“The wedding was organised as an engagement party and my dad’s 60th birthday celebration weekend, so only six people out of the 100 guests knew it was a wedding,” smiles the bride. “The surprise and joy on everyone’s faces once they arrived on the day was wonderful.”
The rustic DIY wedding on December 16, 2017 at a winery in South Australia was the “perfect mix of DIY and rustic,” says Anda. “With the serene grounds of Hewitson Wines, decorating was easy,” she smiles. “All of our loved ones chipped into help out with setup, decorating, child minding and music, all offering their services as wedding gifts.”
The father of the bride made blackboards, wood rounds and ring boxes – which Anda finished off with script. “Our wedding was perfect for us. It was a quick ceremony filled with humor, delicious food and wines, music to dance the night away and our nearest and dearest to celebrate with late into the night,” recalls the bride.

Anda’s keyhole-back lace gown was from Adelaide Bridal Emporium. “The staff were wonderful,” praises Anda. “I was made to feel ‘bride-like’ even when I was at my most nervous.”
“Rebekah was great with our children, including them in the process and cheering them up when one in particular didn’t want to cooperate,” the bride says of their photographer.
“Tristan Hart is a very dear friend who played Somewhere Over the Rainbow on the ukulele,” Anda says of the ceremony music.
The couple used Snapple Photo Booth Hire to give the guests some entertainment at the reception.
“Being a surprise wedding, the focus was on the love that we share,” beams Anda.
