Adele and Matt pulled off the perfect surprise wedding, with 100 guests attending what they originally thought was Adele’s 30th birthday.
“We took the opportunity to incorporate my birthday and our boho wedding and created a day that was like one big festival,” recalls the bride.
None the wiser, guests were picked up on November 17, 2019 by red double-decker bus and dropped at Broken Head Beach, where they were led down a secret path to find a ceremony setting complete with boho decor, lanterns, a two-metre grazing table and ‘Dance Monkey’ singer, Tones and I, on the microphone.
“Tones and I played seven songs on the beach, including her version of ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ for our aisle song. There wasn’t a dry eye when I got to Matt.”
Following the ceremony, the party moved to The Tree House Byron Bay where drinks flowed and the celebration really kicked into gear.
“Everyone came up to me saying it was the best wedding they had ever been to. The whole day was wrapped around fun, good vibes and so much love. No awkward suits, tight dresses or heels, just a massive party that completely mixed up the wedding game.”

The couple, aged 31 and 33, announced their engagement following Matt’s romantic proposal at sunrise.
Forty people from Adele’s hometown, Melbourne, flew over for the ‘birthday party’.
“We had to ensure everyone was dressed in comfort because we were partying all throughout the night, so banter shirts and beachy dresses it was!”
