You need to find a storyteller who can adapt to your energy. This is about creating a custom soundscape that feels just right. You want your wedding to suit you two as a couple. The best way to do this is to spend some time with the DJ, let them get to know you two, and then you can get to know them.

Don’t focus on anything pre-recorded, and don’t rely on your DJ’s prerecorded playlists and mix-tapes to make your choice! You need to understand how they can respond to the vibe of a room.
“Mix-tapes are the sort of thing you can record in your bedroom, disconnected from the live vibe of a celebration.” Renato divulges. “If your DJ can’t read the crowd and do a real-time reaction and change-up, then you may as well pre-set a Spotify playlist.”
You want to have your list of songs in “must haves”, “party pleasers”, and don’t forget – the songs that mean the most to two. These will need to be queued up at some point, but if the vibes aren’t hitting – it’s your DJ’s job to switch it up. No Grease megamix whilst the DJ texts their friends – this is a wedding role that requires complete concentration!

Work closely with your DJ to help elevate the celebration. You know when two great artists come together and it’s even better? Like Charli XCX and Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift and Post Malone. The best work comes from teamwork! Working with your DJ can make it even – just wait, you’ll be blown away!

Create a mood board
Bring your Pinterest skills over to the music side! You’re spending enough time creating vision boards for the overall look of your wedding, so make sure you spend some time on vibes! Unsure what to include on your music mood board? Start with the genres that you and your fiance love the most, from old-school hip-hop to pop and even some of the classic rock songs. From here, pick your favourites and what songs are special to you. Then, pick what vibes you’re after; is it romantic, party, or rave? This is where you can really let your imagination go!
Finding your wedding DJ – tried and tested
There’s searching high and low for your perfect wedding DJ, but remember that others have walked this same path. Make sure your DJ has been reviewed and even ask them for testimonials if you can’t find any online.
