Check Out Mercury DJ HireEasy Weddings: Hi Daniel! How did Mercury DJ Hire start, and what has it become since then?
Mercury DJ Hire started firstly with a passion for DJing, and in my DJ career, as I moved away from nightclubs, I found my calling in weddings. I was actually at a wedding myself one day and was bitterly disappointed in the quality of the DJ at this wedding. It was almost a lightbulb moment for me, and I realised I had a lot to offer to a somewhat lacking industry.
Fast forward to ten years later, and we are now a market-leading entertainment company in the wedding industry in Melbourne, bringing amazing DJs to your event with our ever-growing team of nine DJs!
What do you love most about DJing at weddings?
Weddings have it all when it comes to a DJ gig. Everyone is in a good mood, everyone wants to party, and on top of that, we get to dress up nicely, have some amazing food and perform for couples on one of the best nights of their lives! What’s not to like about that?
How far in advance should couples book their DJ?
As soon as you start planning your wedding, book entertainment. Lock them in as soon as you find the DJ that suits you. Most couples seem to book between 9-12 months before, but we also get couples who book 12-18 months in advance. I highly recommend this if you want the pick of the bunch, so to speak if your wedding is on a Saturday and especially if your wedding is from September through to April.
What kind of input do couples have when it comes to the wedding playlist?
We want to hear everything that couples have to say about the music. We approach it with all our knowledge and skill and can help couples understand the right music for their wedding. It’s all about coming together to understand what the couple needs, and with the position we are in, couples rely on our knowledge as we have been doing this at such a high level for so long, we have picked up a thing or two along the way.
Check Out Mercury DJ HireWhy do you think it’s important to have great music at a wedding?
Great music is definitely key, and a great DJ to deliver it is even more important as the flow of the music determines the overall vibe. The best advice I can offer for this is actually quite simple. The couple needs to be on the dancefloor regularly on the day, and this is a HUGE factor in determining a successful dancefloor or not. There isn’t a magic song that makes people dance; it’s the vibe and feeling in the room that does that, and if the couple takes the lead and hits the dancefloor, just watch what your guests do.
What are your favourite songs to get people on the dancefloor?
This depends on the mood, timing, music guide and feeling the DJ has in that moment. If it’s after the first dance from the couple, usually a song that’s easier for other couples to join feels right, If it’s after the bouquet and garter and the crowd is already hyped, then something higher energy is what will work better at that moment.
What other services do you offer for weddings?
If you want to take your wedding entertainment to the next level, we also have amazing saxophone players and MCs to add to your Mercury DJ Hire wedding package. Our talented saxophone player has over 20 years of experience and will mix in seamlessly to perfectly complement your DJ.
