In the dynamic landscape of the wedding industry, Makeup Mode is a reliable source of expertise and creativity. Susy says, “I was inspired to start my business because my favourite part about weddings is always changing. Working with clients of different ages and likes and dislikes keeps us on our toes. Seeing our clients come back, whether it’s the next bridesmaid getting married or the bride wanting our services again for their child’s christening over and over again, is such a nice feeling – you feel like you are a part of their family.”
A tight-knit industry
The wedding industry, according to Susy, is a close-knit family, where suppliers collaborate, network, and support one another. It’s a world where connections are forged, and experiences are shared, creating a community that values the bonds formed in celebration of love.
A cautionary tale!
Reflecting on memorable moments, Susy recounts an amusing incident: “The most memorable thing I’ve seen at a wedding is… Our bride got her own wedding date wrong! Yes, you got that right!! She actually gave us a different date, and even when we sent her the work agreement and all the threads of emails, it went unnoticed… Brides, please read thoroughly what we send you!”
Despite the unexpected twist, Makeup Mode came to the rescue with a team of artists ready to make the day special, showcasing their adaptability and commitment to their clients. “The day was saved, as Makeup Mode has a big number of artists, there was someone available to send on this job… even at such short notice as 1 hour after the expected time of arrival. In fact, we sent 3 artists and had the bridal party all ready by the original completion time. Needless to say, the bride gave us a glowing review!”

Susy Markovic sheds light on the secret: “Couples love working with me because… A great team that has been working together (both hair and makeup) for 22 years in the bridal industry. Couples always tell us our interaction on the day between our team and our bridal party makes the preparations fun and relaxed.”

With Susy Markovic’s impressive 40-year journey in the industry and 20 years as an educator, she also runs her own makeup school – Makeup Mode Masterclass.

Dispensing invaluable advice to soon-to-be-wed couples, Susy emphasises the importance of research and authenticity: “My number one piece of wedding advice is… Research and check the reviews. Also be wary of filtered pictures on their social media, etc. If the images are touched up, then your expectations of that artist will be unrealistic. Also, choose an image from their own library of work. This way, you will be assured of the same style of makeup and not someone’s interpretation of the look.”
