A week ago, few people knew Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer’s name but, after his mega weekend wedding in Sydney, everyone seems to want to know more about the millionaire property developer whose big day was, well, VERY big.
Mehajer, 29, hired dozens of Harley Davidsons, as well as a fleet of luxury sports vehicles, including Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Rolls Royces, to transport his guests and wedding party, and there was even a seaplane fly-by.
The traffic congestion caused by Mehajer’s wedding motorcade even led to the closure of an entire block in Lidcombe, where the groom lives, and a dozen police had to be called in to handle gathered crowds and dangerous road conditions.
Mehajer’s wedding day, which is estimated to have cost more than $1 million, started with the groom and his groomsmen arriving at a local park by helicopter – and stepping off onto a giant red carpet where they were greeted by cameras – and lots of media attention.
Celebrity guests included singer Missy Higgins and former NRL player Beau Ryan.
However, Mahajer’s big day has come under fire, not just for its extravagance but also the fact that leaflets were sent to his neighbours warning them that any cars left on the street on his wedding day would be towed.
Mr Mahajer, a member of the local council, had no permission to make such demands and his actions will be investigated.
The couple also released a pre-wedding video (below) which depicts the bride and groom’s love story. It starts with Mahajer seeing bride Aysha on the grounds of Sydney University. The voiceover describes Mehajer as “one man who has it all” and whose life is changed after meeting Aysha.
“This is how you do a wedding,” Mehajer told media. “Floyd Mayweather, you’ve got no chance on me motherf—–.”
