Usually, the person officiating your wedding will blend into the background and avoid the spotlight at all cost, after all, it’s the couple’s big day. But, what happens when your celebrant is celebrity? Well, they end up in articles like this one!
You’d be surprised how many celebs are qualified celebrants who’ve officiated the weddings of friends and family.
Emma Stone
The star of such movies as Spiderman and Easy A, Emma Stone has experience in helping join people in holy matrimony. The starlet presided over the marriage proceedings of director Ruben Fleischer and Emma’s publicist Holly Shankoor. Guests at the wedding reported that Ms.Stone took her duties very seriously and seemed calm throughout the ceremony. Since Emma was the one who introduced the couple, it was fitting that she be the one to join them in marriage.
Deepak Chopra
Is there nothing spiritual sage and qualified MD Deepak Chopra can’t do? Apparently not. The body-mind-and-spirit guru was the one who presided over the nuptials of songbird Alicia Keys to producer Swizz Beatz during their 2010 wedding in Corsica. Despite the high-profile bride and groom, Deepak was the only other celebrity present.[ew-supplier-carousel]
Jason Segel
Television and movie star Jason Segel was approached at a bar by a random couple with a rather odd request, they wanted him to marry them. The recently engaged couple were convinced that the How I Met Your Mother actor was the perfect person to officiate their upcoming nuptials and were trying to convince him to take the job. Jason obliged, partly due to the fact that the original person they had chosen to officiate had dropped out of the proceedings. Later that year the comic married the excited couple on national television in front of millions of viewers.
Tori Spelling
Former Beverley Hills 90210 starlet actress and daughter of TV producer Aaron Spelling, Tori is now best-known for her role in her own reality TV show Tori & Dean: Inn Love, on which she was ordained in 2007. She finished the course online and received her certificate in the mail. As far as we know, she’s only officiated one wedding and describes it as “my scariest moment because they [the couple] bestowed such an honour upon me and I didn’t want to let them down.”
Ian McKellan
We can only imagine Sir Ian McKellan, aka Gandalf the Great, would have been spectacular officiating the wedding of his best friend, Patrick Stewart (aka Star Trek’s Captain Picard), who wed singer Sunny Ozell in September 7, 2013. Describing the wedding soon after, Stewart said, “His remarks were not only full of wisdom and humor and poetry but knowledge of the two of us.” To which his new bride added, “He got a little choked up at one point.”
Conan O’Brien
In 2011, comedian Conan O’Brien surprised everyone in his studio audience with the wedding of his long time costume designer Scott Cronick and Scott’s partner David Gorshein. The wedding was even more surprising when the audience found out that Conan himself would be officiating the wedding for his friends. Conan was his usual humorous self during the proceedings, but there were a few moments of sincerity and honesty.
Joan Rivers
Comedian Joan Rivers presided over the wedding of celebrity wedding planner Preston Bailey’s wedding to long-time partner Theo Blackman in February 2013. The couple held a King Kong-themed wedding atop the Empire State Building and Joan performed the ceremony in front of a range of celebrity guests including Martha Stewart. Talk about pressure!
Bill Clinton
Bill Clinton can add celebrant to his list of titles, which includes Commander in Chief and President of the United States. Yep, Clinton became a celebrant in 2010 and was the one who officiated over the wedding of disgraced New York politician Anthony Weiner’s marriage to Huma Abedin, who was the long-time aide of Bill’s wife, Hilary Clinton.
Mark Consuelos
American actor and director Mark Consuelos was asked by long time friend Howard Stern to officiate Stern’s upcoming nuptials with long-time love, model Beth Ostrosky. Mark of course accepted and the two were married by him in late 2008 in front of a star-studded crowd. Mark stated later in an interview that he was so honored being asked to officiate Stern’s nuptials, he could not help but say yes.

The couple, who are still happily married, wed at the luxury Parrot Cay Resort in Turks and Caicos and Victor is said to have pulled off the ceremony with aplomb! We’d expect nothing less of this award-winning actor.
Lady Gaga
Ok, so Lady Gaga isn’t quite an officiant, but she wants to be! Soon after the legalization of gay marriage in the state of New York, the mega pop star registered to become an ordained minister. The license was a way to show her fans how much they meant to her and also she planned on marrying her best friends in a ceremony. Lady Gaga also expressed an interest to blogger Perez Hilton in performing gay weddings during her concerts. There’s been no news on whether Lady Gaga is yet qualified but we’ll keep you posted.
