Easy Weddings: Hi Ned! How did Blume Events Entertainment start, and what has it become since then?
Blume Events was initially known as the Ned Verwey Band and began in 2017. Since then, we have performed throughout Australia and covered many overseas countries, including France, Greece, England, Tokyo, Thailand, and Hong Kong.
In 2020, we shifted our focus to growing our band into an event services company based in Australia. Since then, we have added multiple other services, including photo booth hire, mobile bar, MC/DJ services, and more. We are known as a one-stop shop for any type of event while also maintaining our love for performance. While we have broadened our event services, we still have a passion for performance and specialise in creating tailor-made events for each client.
You offer an array of options for wedding entertainment, including acoustic musicians, DJs, and live bands. What are the most popular act configurations for weddings?
In the past twelve months, we’ve seen a shift from the larger five to seven-piece bands to a duo option along with a DJ. This works extremely well as the duo creates a beautiful atmosphere for the ceremony, canapes and dinner while the DJ kicks off the dancefloor in the evening.
Our trio and four-piece options have always been very popular and give us versatility throughout the day and night. We have a full-sounding trio/four-piece band with a lot of energy, so we can replicate the sound of a much larger band while keeping many of the benefits of a smaller band.
What advice do you give to couples who can’t decide between a DJ and live musicians?
This depends on a few different factors, including the preferred style of music, budget, and overall atmosphere of the wedding day. We have several packages available, including DJ and band options and a combination of the two. Once we have an initial chat with the couple, we send through a few options that we think would suit their preferences and go from there.
Your reviews from previous clients are always absolutely glowing! How do you make sure your couples are always blown away by your entertainment services?
As a relatively small team, we can provide a personal touch for each couple we work with. No two events are the same for us — we tailor our sets to the client’s preference and ensure the day runs smoothly without a hitch. We also have a consistent roster of musicians that perform with us regularly, allowing us to continuously add songs to our repertoire while keeping the level of musicianship at the highest quality.
At the end of the day, we are here to create the perfect event. We mix an ideal combination of professional, top-quality entertainment while just wanting to see our clients have the time of their lives. We love what we do and appreciate how lucky we are to perform at weddings, which is reflected in our flawless five-star rating over the past five years.
Are Blume Entertainment’s talented musicians open to song requests?
Absolutely, we have in-depth conversations with all our couples about the style, genre, and vibe they are after while also taking requests throughout the night. We not only learn songs for the key moments but also adjust our sets to the client’s tastes in music. As a result, no two events have the same song selections.
We perform for the audience and focus on creating the perfect atmosphere for any occasion. We cover a vast majority of styles, including rock, pop, funk, R&B, soul, jazz, and folk, and we have a special love for country. We have over 500 songs on our set list and focus on each individual client’s taste in music.
What are your favourite songs to get people on the dancefloor?
We get asked this question a lot, and it’s hard to answer as each event has an entirely different preference for music, so it depends on the crowd we are performing for. Many of the classics initially stand out, such as Valerie by Amy Winehouse, 500 Miles by The Proclaimers, I’m a Believer by the Monkees, and Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars.
We have also seen a shift to many nostalgic tunes like Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus, All The Small Things by Blink 182, Love Story by Taylor Swift, Man, I Feel Like a Woman by Shania Twain, Backstreet Boys—the list never ends. Our country fans seem to love Chicken Fried by Zac Brown Band, Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen, along with many of the classics.
As mentioned above, we tailor our sets for all of our couples, take note of their favourite songs/genres, and create a personalised setlist on the dancefloor with that in mind.
