Bindi Irwin and long time partner Chandler Powell finally said “I do” after getting engaged last year when Powell proposed on Bindi’s 21st birthday. The loved up pair met 6 years prior at Australia Zoo in Queensland, where they also married, hours before the country was hit with more restrictions on weddings at midnight on Wednesday.
Powell gave Irwin a stunning diamond ring when he proposed in 2019.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many couples have opted to postpone their weddings, with a small percentage able to fast track their days to Wednesday, like Bindi and Chandler, in a bid to get married before the restrictions hit and events are limited. They still opted to not have guests attend their wedding to keep them safe, considering the bigger picture over their desires for their wedding day.
The bride was walked down the aisle by her brother, Bob, and lit a candle in honour of her father, the late Steve Irwin, animal expert.
On Instagram, Bindi posted the above image as a wedding announcement with this caption:
“We held a small ceremony and I married my best friend. There are no words to describe the amount of love and light in my heart right now. We’ve planned this beautiful day for nearly a year and had to change everything, as we didn’t have guests at our wedding. This was a very difficult decision but important to keep everyone safe. We wish all of our friends and family could have been there with us, however it’s lovely that we will be able to share photos and videos. Right now we’re encouraging the world to hold onto hope and love, which will carry us forward during this profound time in history. Today we celebrated life and revelled in every beautiful moment we shared together in our Australia Zoo gardens. Mum helped me get ready, Robert walked me down the aisle, Chandler became my husband and together we lit a candle in Dad’s memory. We shared tears and smiles and love. Thankfully, since we all live at Australia Zoo as a family, we could be there for each other. To everyone reading this – stay safe, social distance and remember LOVE WINS!”
Perhaps this was the good news and powerful message that we all needed this week! Remember that despite all that is going on in the world, that LOVE is not cancelled. And as Bindi Irwin said, Love wins.
