What should we budget for drone footage at our wedding?

Would really love to add this element to our video as we are getting married on a beautiful private property, it's stunning. What should we budget for drone footage?

As some of the wedding vidography professional already mentioned that these days this is something that is pretty much expectd. We however recommend asking the videography company that you are going ahead with to run pre-checks to see if there are any restrictions in place by the government due to an airport nearby or other reasons. And one other factor on the day could be the weather.

But it is best not to assume and definitly should be asked during the selection process.

All the best.

Drone footage shouldn't be an additional extra. In 2023 & 2024 i would expect a professional to own one and want the footage themselves to level up the video. Most videographers will use it even if you don't pay for it. Find someone that includes it :)

Drone footage is included in all our packages. As long as the weather and location allows then we'll definitely be grabbing those shots!!

At Vortex Production, the drone is included in every wedding videography package, provided that the venue allows flying and the weather conditions are suitable.

Cre8tve Moments includes drone footage in some of its packge as an inclusion. Others charge it as an add on. It really comes back to time and having everything planned out for the day. If drone footage is a must have in your final film it is sometimes best allowing the budget for the second videographer to capture this and to capture other different anglees of your day whilst being there on site.

Firstly, congrats on your upcoming wedding!
Adding drone footage to your video can truly capture the beauty of your private property.
While many videographers, including myself, offer drone footage as part of our packages, its feasibility depends on the location.

I'd check if your property is near any arifields or restricted areas. Discuss with your chosen videogrpaher to determine if the drone footage is inclluded or availalbe as an add-on.
They can provide more specific information and any associated costs.

Best wishes for a beatuiful wedding day!

I can't speak on behalf of other businesses, but for us it is something we offer as part of our service. We will always use drones at the weddings we film where ever possible, however some venues (particually close to the city or airports) are restricted by CASSA. Also if we have bad weather or not enough time allowed during the day for drone usage, sometimes this is a limitation.

Hey! We have drone footage included in all our pakcages at no additional cost. If your wedding day, the weather, and venue calls for it...then we get it up in the air!

Depending on whether you want extensive drone footage, or just a few snippets to fit into your film, in most cases the costings of this is factored into most videographers packages. However, for those that don't offer drone as part of their package (whether they are able to fly themselves or just don't include it), then they would outsource that option to a dedicated drone pilot. We offer simple drone shots of the venue and the couple into our packages, but if a couple wanted extensive footage , we may need to bring on a second shooter to capture that, time allowing. I would enquire with your preferred videographers as to whether they offer this as an inclusion , or whether they outsource this. We have our drone licence and know where we can fly, the CASA Rules and Regs and have insurance for our work so make sure that if it's outsourced, they have that at the very least.

I provide complimentary 4K drone footage with all of my videography packages. However, it's important to ensure that your chosen package allows enough time to capture these shots without feeling rushed, particularly in the morning.

I make use of these drone shots to set the desired mood and enhance the cinematic feel of the film. The morning is the ideal time to gather these shots, as it allows us to make the most of the diminishing afternoon light for other important shots.

If you are interested in being filmed with the drone in the afternoon, I would advise against it. During the time it takes to capture a few drone shots of the couple, both the photographer and video team could have taken 20 other shots. Setting up shots with the drone is a slower process, as both the videographer and photographer need to be positioned far away from the frame to capture wide, expansive shots. This can make it difficult to hear instructions clearly and may also inconvenience the photographer, as the limited afternoon sunlight needs to be used wisely and shared among various shots.
