I first loved the idea of videography for a wedding when I saw my parents wedding video from 1971. It was amazing to see at the time because I was the same age at the time as they were on their wedding day. I had it edited so I could surprise them on their 40th wedding anniversary. It was an awesome gift and they loved it. I also hear the number one regret brides have is they didn't get a videographer. 1) Videography style is simply capturing the day and putting all the important parts together. The highlights video is generally put to music and is edited in a chronological fashion, from beginning of the day to the end. Sometimes snippets of speeches are used to fill in the highlights and tell a bit of a story. highlights are generally 2-10min long.

2) Cinematography style is capturing the day and then creating a feature film that is a visual story of the day. Editing doesn't follow a chronological sequence of events. Cinematography style is often more expensive due to the extra time required for editing and at the end you could have a feature film of the day between 15-40 min long.

Some videographers also offer same day edits. That is they capture your day and then have a video ready to show at your reception. This can be a powerful experience if you have the budget and would like everyone to share in your video experience.

Before asking your videographer questions. Tell them when your wedding day is and how many hours you want the videographer to cover and what you hope to get in the package both in your coverage and final product. This will help the videographer provide a quote.

Here is a list of questions I believe is important to ask a videographer:

1) Will you be the one filming or are there contractors?

2) How long will the editing process take?

3) What does the end package include? DVD, USB, downloadable file?

4) How long will the editing process be?

4) How many cameras do you use, to cover what?

5) How do you ensure good audio? Do you use a Lapel mic or plug and/or do you plug into the sound desk feed?

5) Can I have a say in the editing process?

6) Can I select the music for the video?

7) What parts of the wedding day do you capture?

8) Are there extra costs, or is it all included in the package?

9) How much is the deposit? When is the remaining balance due?
